French Kiss - Panic (1979)

The French Kiss group judging from the album back cover, Panic! (Polydor, 1979), consisted of Yvette Johnson, Lamarr Stevens and Muffi Durham, an actress whose credits seem to fall around 1980. Aside from Stevens, it is not certain who else sang, but their image and their names on the back cover are the closest thing to the music credits on the album. The rest of the music on the album is attributed, quite anonymously, to "The Simon Orchestra". However, the credits for "Disco Mix Consultants" are quite plentiful in contrast, and each track on the album is credited to a different mixer. Among the accredited 'mixed consultants', Gary Blair, featured on the first Arpeggio LP, is credited for mixing the title track, and Will Crocker, a much more prolific name who has participated in quite a few Disconet mixes, is credited the mix of "Mischief". overall production is credited to Simon Soussan.

Without a doubt of all the tracks that appear on this album and that rises above the rest is the single titled "Panic / Save Me (Suite)". Apparently a demo version of an older song, it has, once again, those great claps, disco laser sound effects, and of course, most of all, those dynamic chains. Among the disco songs, those staccato strings, Costandinos style, interplayed with those rhythmic beats are what really makes this track worthwhile.

We should also mention the cover, which is undoubtedly one of the best things about the album. That delightfully cheeky photo was taken by Gary Heery, who seems to have done quite a few album covers in the late '70s. Heery is still active today, and has his own website, where you can see some of his other work. .

This kid starts schooling in the second part of “Another Brick in the Wall.” His pain does not end there. In school, he is forced to believe, think, and do to a set criteria. There is no crossing the lanes. There is no free thinking. Everyone becomes emotionless humonoids at the end of this ‘production line.’ The worst part of his schooling is the mental and physical abuse the children have to suffer. The teachers are portrayed in a very dark and cynical light in this song, where they are seen getting pleasure out of emotionally degrading and punishing the kids. In the movie ‘The Wall,’ we are shown a scene where the teacher catches this kid composing a poem. Instead of complimenting him, the teacher goes on to mock the kid and emotionally scar him. An even worse aspect of this is that Pink Floyd reveals us that this behaviour of teachers is something born in their homes. The Manhattan Transfer - Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone (1979) - Discotheque Version

Barry from Sauquoit, Ny once said: On March 1st 1980, the Manhattan Transfer performed "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'... One month later on April 13th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #84; and on June 8th it peaked at #30 (for 2 weeks) and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100...
